What You’ll Do

  • Design, implement, and execute firmware validation test plans for bare-metal test & control (BMTC) platforms and embedded firmware.
  • Build and maintain test automation frameworks and scripts (Python, C/C++) to validate SoC/board-level firmware under real hardware conditions.
  • Create and run reproducible bare-metal test cases that exercise bootloader, device initialization, peripheral drivers, and low-level firmware features.
  • Debug firmware and hardware interaction issues using JTAG, UART, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other lab tools; triage failures and create clear bug reports.
  • Integrate validation tests into CI systems and report metrics to drive product quality decisions.
  • Collaborate with firmware, hardware, and system engineering teams to define validation requirements and improve test coverage.
  • Maintain test infrastructure including board bring-up, flash programming, and test fixtures; occasionally support lab-level hardware bring-up.

What We're Looking For (Required Qualifications)

  • 3+ years of experience validating embedded firmware or firmware-level software on bare-metal platforms or SoCs.
  • Strong C/C++ skills for embedded code and Python or similar for test automation.
  • Hands-on experience with bare-metal testing, bootloaders, low-level device bring-up, or BMTC-style validation.
  • Practical debugging experience with serial consoles, JTAG, logic analyzers, and oscilloscope usage.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based host environments for test automation, cross-compilation toolchains, and Git.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and experience producing reproducible test cases and defect reports.
  • Ability to work onsite in Sunnyvale, CA and perform hands-on lab work.

Nice-to-Have (Preferred)

  • Experience with U-Boot, coreboot, or other bootloader internals.
  • Prior work with SoC-level validation, silicon bring-up, or board bring-up activities.
  • Knowledge of hardware bring-up procedures, power sequencing, and peripheral interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD for embedded validation (Jenkins, GitLab CI) and test result dashboards.
  • Experience with firmware security validation, hardware-in-the-loop, or automated regression farms.

Technical Skills & Tools

  • Embedded C/C++; Python for automation
  • JTAG, UART, SWD, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes
  • Cross-compilers and toolchains (arm-none-eabi, clang/gcc)
  • Linux host environment, Bash scripting
  • Git, test frameworks, basic networking
  • Flash programmers, board-level test fixtures

Working Conditions & Location

  • Onsite role in Sunnyvale, CA with regular lab access required.
  • Role involves hands-on hardware testing in a lab environment and may require occasional extended test runs or evening support for regressions.
