What You’ll Do

  • Implement and maintain embedded firmware modules in C/C++ based on system requirements; fix bugs and improve existing functionality.
  • Develop, simulate, and debug VHDL (or other HDL) for FPGAs to ensure predictable interaction with DSPs and peripheral hardware.
  • Test firmware and FPGA builds on physical motion-control hardware using electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters).
  • Optimize algorithms for hard real-time performance and deterministic behavior in precision motion systems.
  • Run rigorous integration and system-level tests on motion control platforms and verify performance against design parameters.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams (Mechanical, Software), Product Management, Sales, and Global Technical Support to solve customer-facing technical challenges.
  • Document designs, test results, and troubleshooting steps; participate in design reviews and code reviews.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 0–2 years of professional, post-graduation experience in embedded software/firmware development.
  • Proficiency in C and/or C++ for embedded systems.
  • Experience with a hardware description language (for example VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog).
  • Practical skills using electronic test instruments (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters) to debug hardware + firmware interactions.
  • Must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the Fox Chapel / Pittsburgh area; this role is primarily on-site with possible hybrid flexibility.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States now and in the future without employer sponsorship. Our client does not provide US work-authorization sponsorship for this position. OPT and CPT holders are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications (What Will Separate You from the Rest)

  • Strong object-oriented programming skills in C++ targeted at time-critical, hard real-time embedded systems.
  • Hands-on firmware development experience on Texas Instruments DSPs.
  • FPGA development experience using VHDL and toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado.
  • Working knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) techniques and feedback control systems.
  • Experience with Git and familiarity with Atlassian Jira for issue tracking.
  • Relevant professional or design experience from internships, co-ops, student design teams, or full-time roles.

Location & Work Arrangement

  • Primary work location: Fox Chapel, PA (Pittsburgh area). This is primarily an on-site role at our client’s headquarters with potential for some hybrid flexibility. Candidates must be able to commute to or relocate to the Fox Chapel / Pittsburgh area.
