Fire and Evidence Technician
The Fire and Evidence Technician supports Fire Investigators and Engineers by assisting in fire scene examinations, evidence collection, and documentation to determine the origin and cause of fires. This role involves securing fire scenes, reconstructing events, interviewing witnesses, and preparing detailed investigative reports, contributing to accurate and professional fire investigations.

Primary Purpose
To assist Fire Investigators and Engineers with fire events to determine origin, cause and responsibility in accordance with assignments from clients or assigned legal counsel on behalf of our confidential client.
What You’ll Do (Essential Functions & Responsibilities)
- Assist Fire Investigators and Engineers in conducting fire scene examinations in a safe and professional manner.
- Secure fire scenes when necessary to prevent spoliation.
- Assist in debris removal and, when needed, reconstruct fire scenes.
- Identify, collect, document, and package evidence for testing and/or storage.
- Photograph and document fire scenes and associated evidence thoroughly.
- Identify and interview witnesses; gather pertinent statements.
- Request and collect public records from fire and police agencies.
- Communicate regularly with clients to report investigative progress.
- Conduct research and basic testing as directed.
- Prepare written reports that document findings supported by evidence, testimony, research, and testing.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Support the organization’s quality and safety programs.
Qualifications
Education & Licensing
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Fire/Arson/Explosion Investigation, or related field preferred.
- Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI) certification required or must be attained within six months of employment.
- IAAI-FIT certification preferred.
Experience
- Entry-level fire investigation role — training will be provided.
Skills & Knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- PC literate — comfortable with Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical and interpretive skills.
- Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong teamwork orientation.
- Good judgment, discretion, and ability to meet performance competencies.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements

- Clear and conceptual thinking; good judgment, troubleshooting, problem solving and ability to manage work-related stress and deadlines.
Physical
- Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods.
- Ability to kneel, squat, bend, climb, crawl, stoop and reach/work overhead.
- Lift/carry up to 50 pounds; push/pull up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to drive up to 4 hours per day.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Auditory/Visual
- Hearing, vision and verbal communication required.

Compensation & Benefits
- Starting pay range for this Lakewood, WA role: $27.00 - $29.00 per hour.
