Position Overview

Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring an entry-level Field Service Engineer based in Grand Rapids, MI. This hands-on engineering role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers with a strong technical foundation who want to grow quickly in controls, electrical, mechanical, or software disciplines while supporting automated equipment in automotive assembly environments.

What You’ll Do

• Participate in a 2–4 month in-house training program at the Grand Rapids site to learn product, service, and commissioning practices.
• Shadow and learn from the Field Service Manager and experienced engineers; replicate learned practices in the field.
• Travel to customer sites across the U.S. to perform machine startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair (expected travel: 70–90%).
• Teach customers how to operate and maintain equipment; provide onsite training and documentation.
• Work on electrical assemblies including PLC panels, motor drives, transistors, and high-voltage power sources.
• Support mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting on large automated test equipment.
• Coordinate with internal teams for travel logistics; follow safety and quality procedures while onsite.
• Report work status and service outcomes to engineering and support teams; escalate complex issues as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or closely related technical field.
• Fundamental understanding of PLCs and ladder logic.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude; comfortable with hands-on assembly and troubleshooting.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively (~70–90% of the time across the U.S.).
• Authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred / Nice to Have

• 0–2 years of practical experience with pneumatics and hydraulics (co-op, internship, or project work acceptable).
• Prior hands-on experience from co-ops, internships, or college projects involving controls, fabrication, or industrial equipment.
• Demonstrated eagerness to learn new skills quickly and adapt in field environments.
• Experience with motor drives, panel wiring, and electrical assembly.

Work Environment & Travel

• This is a full-time, permanent, fully onsite/home-base role based in Grand Rapids, MI with the majority of critical work performed at customer sites.
• Expect extended travel across the United States (flights, hotels, and meals are coordinated by an internal travel team and expenses are covered).
• Work includes a mix of desk-based tasks, shop training, and hands-on field service at manufacturing plants.
• Overtime and double-time pay are available for extra hours worked, in accordance with applicable law.

Pay & Benefits

• Salary range: $63,000 – $75,000 per year. Individual offers will be determined by experience, skills, and other job-related factors.
