What You’ll Do

This Field Service Engineer role is an entry-level, hands-on engineering opportunity with a Confidential Client in automotive custom machine manufacturing. You will learn on the job, support equipment startup and commissioning, and provide field service and troubleshooting at customer sites across the U.S.

  • Engage in hands-on engineering tasks with an emphasis on training and mentorship.
  • Complete an initial 2–4 month training program at the Cascade, MI site led by the Field Service Manager and team.
  • Shadow experienced engineers, observe best practices, and replicate engineering behaviors.
  • Travel to customer sites to teach startup, operation, and commissioning of test and production equipment.
  • Work on electrical assemblies including PLC panels, motor drives, high-voltage sources, transistors, and related controls.
  • Troubleshoot, install, and service large mechanical, hydraulic, and automated equipment used in automotive assembly plants.
  • Provide field support for testing equipment and follow-up with customers to ensure operational success.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Basic understanding of PLCs and ladder logic.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude; comfort working with assemblies and wiring.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (typically 70–90% travel).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of experience or hands-on training with pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Co-op, internship, or college project experience that demonstrates practical engineering work.
  • Eagerness to learn new technical skills and grow into controls, software, or systems roles.
  • Strong communication skills for customer-facing interaction during commissioning and training.

Work Environment

  • Primarily onsite work at customer facilities throughout the United States; some desk-based work at the home office in Cascade, MI.
  • Typical duties include installation, commissioning, hands-on troubleshooting, and follow-up service.
  • Travel logistics (flights, hotels, meals) are coordinated and paid for by the employer.
  • Overtime and double-time compensation apply when extra hours are required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $63,000 – $75,000 per year.
  • Actual pay within the range will depend on qualifications, experience, location, and other job-related factors.
  • Benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision plan options, health savings account (HSA), flexible spending accounts (FSA), employer-paid life insurance, short- and long-term disability, 401(k) with company match, employee assistance program (EAP), virtual healthcare, and voluntary coverages. Domestic partner benefits may be available where applicable.
