Field QC Technician I - Temporary Contract - Full-Time
The Field QC Technician I is an entry-level role responsible for supporting data quality control workflows and production activities related to GPS, IMU trajectory, and LiDAR point cloud data. Working under close supervision, the technician identifies and resolves data anomalies to ensure accurate and timely progression of field-collected data into production environments. This position offers foundational experience in applying quality standards and technical skills within a fast-paced GIS data environment.

What You’ll Do
The Field QC Technician I supports the Field QC team on a temporary contract (4–6 months) to help move field‑collected geospatial data into production while learning established quality standards and processes.
- Receive assignments and follow direction from senior team members to process:
- GPS/IMU trajectory data
- LiDAR point cloud data
- GPS base station data
- Support analysis of trajectory and point‑cloud datasets for consistency and accuracy
- Track the flow of data from field capture through post‑processing to production
- Identify anomalies in field data and correct errors where possible, escalating complex issues to senior staff
- Assist with basic batch processing and QA tasks to maintain throughput and quality targets
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- General computer literacy (file handling, basic networking, Microsoft Excel)
- Familiarity with GIS, GPS and LiDAR concepts: mapping projections & datums, GPS post‑processing, LAS file formats
- Basic math and statistical analysis skills; ability to apply analytical methods and sound judgment
- Familiarity with Python and batch processing for repetitive QC tasks
- Understanding of relational database principles and basic SQL
- Clear oral and written communication to translate user requests and document QC findings
- This position is entry‑level and works under close supervision; strong attention to detail and willingness to learn are essential
- NOTE: This is a temporary contract position and is not eligible for current or future visa sponsorship
Work Environment & Schedule
- Fast‑paced office environment with multiple priorities and occasional tight deadlines
- Regular office hours; some additional hours may be required during busy periods
- Role includes extended computer‑based review of large datasets
Compensation
- Estimated pay: $46,266 per year (estimated)
