Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Field Engineer to support heavy-civil construction projects across Southern California with a home assignment in Signal Hill, CA. This hands-on role blends field engineering, office support, and estimating tasks — ideal for early-career civil/construction engineers who want fast career growth, travel opportunities, and real responsibility on major infrastructure work.
District Overview
Confidential Client's Southern California operations perform heavy civil, transportation, water resources, and related infrastructure work. Teams relocate to where projects require expertise, giving you exposure to varied job types and locations across the region and occasionally other U.S. states.
Location & Travel
- Primary location: Signal Hill, CA (job assignment will be determined closer to start date).
- Must be willing to travel and relocate based on project needs (local and national opportunities).
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license required.
What You’ll Do
Field Engineering (on-site)
- Assist interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews.
- Perform quantity calculations and percent-complete measurements.
- Support field surveying, layout (elevations, control points), and compile as-built data.
- Help prepare Work Plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and daily reports.
- Participate in safety meetings and enforce jobsite safety practices.
- Order and schedule material deliveries, coordinate work groups, and supervise aspects of field operations.
Office Engineering
- Complete material takeoffs and basic engineering calculations.
- Provide technical drafting and prepare documentation/submittals for clients, vendors, and agencies.
- Maintain project recordkeeping — daily reports, RFIs, photographs, and correspondence.
- Enter data into job cost systems and assist in cost reporting and change order preparation.
Estimating Support
- Review plans/specifications and perform material/quantity takeoffs for bids.
- Analyze historical production/cost data and identify risk areas for senior estimators.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related engineering field (civil, mechanical, construction management, mining, geotechnical), or equivalent.
- Minimum overall GPA: 2.5.
- Willingness to work in heavy civil construction environments.
- Ability to access all points of construction sites and work in varied climates.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, time-management, and initiative.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team; flexible with schedules including nights/weekends as project needs require.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Preferred: prior internship or relevant construction experience.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $85,000 - $95,000 per year (actual compensation depends on experience, education, and location).
