What You’ll Do

This entry-level Field Engineer role is designed for early-career candidates and recent graduates who want hands-on experience on federal construction projects and a clear path into project management.

• Support the Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, and Superintendent with day-to-day field operations on federal construction sites.
• Assist with daily project documentation including reports, photographs, meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, and correspondence.
• Perform field verification of completed work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, quality standards, and contract requirements.
• Assist with site layout, survey, and construction control; verify forms and control points before concrete placement.
• Track installed quantities, production reporting, and support cost vs. budget tracking and production trend analysis.
• Coordinate material deliveries and verify quantities and equipment received.
• Track subcontractor and trade partner activities and assist with field coordination and scheduling.
• Participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site inspections; help maintain site safety documentation.
• Support preparation of as-built documentation, three-week look-aheads, and daily work plans.
• Assist with field measurements for change orders and progress billing; maintain project files and upload documentation to the project management platform.
• Identify field issues, communicate them promptly to project leadership, and document action items from meetings.
• Support project closeout tasks: punch list tracking, turnover documentation, and warranty follow-ups.
• Continuously develop construction management, technical, and federal-contracting knowledge to advance into an Assistant Project Manager role.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Experience: 0–2 years of construction, engineering, or related experience. Recent graduates and interns encouraged to apply. Internship/co-op or military construction experience is a plus.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related technical field preferred. Equivalent military or construction experience may be considered.
• Certifications: OSHA 30 preferred (or ability to obtain within 90 days). CPR/First Aid preferred (or ability to obtain). EIT is a plus but not required.
• Eligibility: U.S. citizenship is required due to federal contract and site security requirements. Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain any site access, badging, or security clearance required for assigned federal projects.

Skills & Tools

• Basic ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
• Comfortable with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
• Exposure to Bluebeam, Procore, Primavera P6, or Microsoft Project is a plus — training provided.
• Familiarity or willingness to learn Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) basics, DCAA audit documentation, and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling procedures.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication.
• Proven ability to build relationships with craft personnel, subcontractors, and project teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-motivated with a demonstrated desire to grow into project management.

Working Conditions & Travel

• Travel: Yes — this is a project-site–based role with assignments nationwide. Candidates should expect up to 100% travel/relocation to assigned project locations for the duration of assignments; overnight stays required.
• Physical demands: Ability to work in active construction environments; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; climbing, kneeling, bending, and frequent standing and field observation.
• Environmental factors: Work outdoors in varying weather; exposure to heavy machinery, noise, dust, and other typical construction-site conditions.
