Field Engineer
The Field Engineer supports superintendents and project teams in executing heavy civil and public infrastructure projects by translating plans into accurate field operations. This role involves field coordination, layout verification, production tracking, quality control, and collaboration with inspectors and crews, providing foundational experience for advancement in construction management or field leadership.

What You’ll Do
The Field Engineer will support site teams and field leadership on heavy civil and public infrastructure projects across the Greater Houston area. Core responsibilities include:
- Support field execution of underground water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, large-diameter pipelines, lift and pump stations, roadway and paving, shaft construction, tunneling, HDD, and other trenchless projects.
- Assist Superintendents and Project Managers with daily planning, crew coordination, work sequencing, material needs, and subcontractor activities.
- Translate plans and specifications into accurate field execution: verify grades, alignments, details, elevations, control points, and offsets.
- Coordinate with surveyors to confirm layout, line and grade, and field measurements.
- Measure and track installed quantities, production rates, labor, equipment, material usage, and subcontractor work for reporting and billing.
- Maintain and organize field documentation: daily reports, photos, redlines, inspection and test records, delivery and material tickets.
- Review current drawings and revisions; help ensure crews use the latest approved information.
- Support RFIs by collecting dimensions, photos, sketches, and other documentation to resolve field conflicts.
- Coordinate deliveries, staging, access, and installation with suppliers and field personnel.
- Work with inspectors, testing labs, surveyors, subcontractors, and project staff to support daily field activities and quality-control tasks.
- Assist with 811 locate verification, excavation documentation, traffic-control coordination, tie-ins, confined-space procedures, and other field-specific controls as assigned.
- Participate in pre-task planning, toolbox talks, and safety meetings; support company and OSHA safety requirements.
- Help maintain as-built/redline records, support punch-list completion, final measurements, demobilization, and project closeout.
- Develop hands-on construction and field leadership skills with opportunities for increased responsibility and career progression.
What We’re Looking For
Ideal candidates will demonstrate technical interest, attention to detail, and willingness to work closely with field crews. Typical qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; entry-level and recent graduates encouraged to apply.
- Internship, co-op, survey, or field/construction experience is a plus.
- Interest or experience in underground utilities, pipelines, water/wastewater, drainage, roadway improvements, shafts, tunneling, HDD, or trenchless construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, profiles, details, specifications, grades, and quantities.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, survey equipment, HeavyJob, CMiC, or scheduling software is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, clear communication, initiative, and teamwork with field leadership and crews.
- Comfortable working outdoors on active construction sites (heat, rain, mud, uneven terrain, excavations).
- Ability to perform light to moderate physical activity for field verification and site access.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between project sites throughout the Greater Houston area as required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation range: $50,000 - $75,000 per year (depending on experience).
