Role overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Field Engineer to support water and buried infrastructure investigations, construction monitoring, and rehabilitation projects. This is an early-career, field-forward role providing hands-on exposure to condition assessment, rehabilitation methods (including CFRP repairs), and construction-phase engineering that will prepare you for design and project leadership opportunities.

Location(s): Waltham, MA (South Waltham) or Houston, TX. This role requires frequent travel (approx. 50%+), including overnight and domestic travel.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations and inspections of water infrastructure and related buried assets under senior engineer supervision.
• Monitor construction activities and document contractor compliance with drawings, specifications, submittals, and installation procedures.
• Assist with construction-phase engineering support: interpret contract documents, document field conditions and deviations, and identify constructability or safety issues.
• Review contractor submittals, coordinate inspections and testing, and assist in resolving field issues.
• Prepare inspection reports, field logs, technical memoranda, and photo documentation summarizing observations and engineering considerations.
• Support senior engineers with calculations, drawings, post-repair activities, and project coordination and client communications as appropriate.
• Work safely in confined spaces (including underground pipes) and follow established safety procedures and training.

What we’re looking for

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Civil Engineering.
• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) registration, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• 0–2 years of professional experience (entry-level candidates welcome).
• Strong oral and written communication skills; able to summarize observations clearly in reports, presentations, emails, and verbally.
• Willingness to travel frequently (approx. 50% or more) for field inspections across the US.
• Comfortable working in confined and outdoor field environments; able to travel by plane/car and hold a valid US driver’s license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
• Safety-minded, dependable, and able to take direction while learning on the job.

Preferred / useful experience (not required)

• Interest or coursework in buried infrastructure, pipelines, or water systems.
• Experience or exposure to construction monitoring, field testing, or materials repair methods (e.g., CFRP).
• Familiarity with drafting or basic structural analysis tools.

Compensation & benefits

This role includes a visible pay range consistent with pay-transparency laws. Actual offer will depend on degree level, experience, and work location.

• Bachelor's degree: $79,560 – $81,640 per year
• Master's degree: $83,200 – $85,280 per year

This position is also eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

• This position can be based in South Waltham, MA or Houston, TX.
• Expect substantial travel (approx. 50%+), including overnight stays and travel to field sites across the US.
