Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Field Engineer to join a Water & Industrial Infrastructure team focused on investigation, rehabilitation, and construction support for buried infrastructure and water systems. This is an early-career role designed for civil engineering graduates who want hands-on field experience investigating pipelines, tanks, culverts, and related structures and supporting construction-phase problem solving.

  • Location: Johnson City, TN (authoritative)
  • Employment type: Full-time / Contractor (onsite field work required)
  • Travel: Expect to spend substantial time in the field (approximately 50%+), including travel by plane and car.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct field investigations and inspections of buried water infrastructure and related systems under senior engineer supervision.
  • Monitor construction and rehabilitation activities to verify contractor compliance with drawings, specifications, and approved procedures.
  • Document field observations, deviations, and constructability issues; prepare inspection reports and technical memoranda.
  • Provide construction‑phase engineering support including interpretation of contract documents and coordination of testing/inspections.
  • Assist in reviewing contractor submittals and resolving field issues with project teams and clients.
  • Support post‑repair activities: collect data, help with development calculations and prepare drawings under guidance.
  • Work with specialty contractors and participate in the application of advanced rehabilitation technologies (e.g., CFRP repairs).

What We’re Looking For

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Civil Engineering.
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) registration or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • 0–2 years of professional experience; field or laboratory internships are a strong plus.
  • Willingness and ability to perform confined‑space work (training provided).
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to summarize observations in reports and presentations.
  • Concrete and steel design coursework (civil‑structural focus) highly preferred.
  • Comfortable traveling and conducting field inspections across the U.S.

Compensation & Benefits

This posting includes a good‑faith salary estimate in compliance with pay transparency requirements.

  • Bachelor’s degree: $79,560 – $81,640 per year
  • Master’s degree: $83,200 – $85,280 per year
  • Overall range represented in this posting: $79,560 – $85,280 per year
  • One‑time sign‑on bonus eligibility: $5,000
