Position Overview
As a Field Engineer I (entry-level) you will support heavy-civil construction projects across the U.S. West Coast, including Alaska and Hawaii. Working for a Confidential Client, you’ll rotate between field and office responsibilities to gain hands-on construction experience, support site operations, and assist estimating and project controls. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers who want practical exposure to earthwork, transportation, roadways, water resources, and underground utilities.
Location & Mobility
This role is based in the Northwest / Alaska region with an initial assignment near Eagle River, AK (postal code 99509). Projects are located across the western U.S.; you must be willing and able to travel and relocate as project needs require. Job assignment will be determined before your start date.
What You’ll Do
Field responsibilities
- Assist interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
- Perform quantity calculations by measuring work and determining percent complete
- Support field surveying and layout (elevations, control points, as-built compilation)
- Help prepare Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), participate in safety meetings, and support site safety programs
- Coordinate material orders and deliveries; schedule and supervise on-site work groups and subcontractor activity
- Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets and produce daily reports/photography as required
Office responsibilities
- Perform material takeoffs and basic engineering calculations to support field operations
- Assist with technical drafting, submittals, RFIs, and project recordkeeping
- Enter data in job cost systems and assist in reviewing cost reports with jobsite management
- Support purchase order and subcontract preparation and minor procurement activities
- Generate as-built documentation and change-order support for review by project leadership
Estimating support
- Assist with plan & specification reviews and identify risk areas for senior estimators
- Perform material and quantity takeoffs and analyze historical production and cost data for bids
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a construction-related engineering field (civil, construction management, geotechnical, mechanical, mining, etc.)
- Minimum overall GPA: 2.5
- Willingness to travel and relocate to small and large cities as business requires
- Ability to access all areas of construction sites in varied climates and conditions
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Strong communication (verbal and written), teamwork, and time-management skills
- Demonstrated work ethic, initiative, attention to detail, and commitment to safety and integrity
- Previous internship or relevant hands-on construction experience preferred
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future

- Regular, reliable attendance and the ability to meet deadlines
- Flexibility to work rotating schedules, overtime, or weekends as project needs dictate
Compensation & Benefits
- Base compensation: $79,000/yr - $87,000/yr (actual pay varies by education, experience, location, and skillset)
