Position Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Field Engineer to support heavy civil construction projects across the Southeast. This role combines field layout and surveying, office engineering tasks (quantity takeoffs, basic calculations, submittals), and estimating support. The position requires travel and relocation flexibility as project locations change.
- Estimated pay: $78,598 per year (estimated)

- Location focus: Southeast projects (includes VA, FL, LA, MS, SC, PA and surrounding states)
Responsibilities
Field Engineering
- Assist in interpreting drawings and specs for field crews and craft supervision
- Perform quantity calculations from field measurements and percent-complete assessments
- Support field surveying and layout (elevations, control points, as-built compilation)
- Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets and maintain basic project records
- Assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks and jobsite safety reviews
- Order and schedule materials; plan and coordinate work groups on site
- Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations as needed
Office Engineering
- Perform material takeoffs from contract documents and drawings
- Complete basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations
- Prepare data, submittals and transmittals for customers, vendors and agencies
- Assist with purchase orders, minor solicitations and subcontract preparation
- Maintain daily reports, RFIs, photos, and correspondence; enter data into job cost systems
- Support change order and as-built documentation for Project Manager review
Estimating
- Analyze historical data and production rates to support bid preparation
- Complete plan and specification reviews and identify project risks for senior estimators
- Perform material and quantity takeoffs for bidding
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related engineering field (civil, mechanical, construction management, mining, geotechnical, or similar)
- Willingness to work in heavy civil construction and travel/relocate as projects require
- Ability to access all points of a construction site in varied climates and conditions
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Strong written and verbal communication, time management, and attention to detail
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, ethics, and teamwork
- Highly motivated with a strong work ethic; able to work rotating schedules, weekends or overtime as project needs require
- Ability to work without current or future employment sponsorship
- Previous internship or related experience preferred
