Position overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Field Engineer based in Brownsville, TX to support heavy civil and infrastructure construction projects. This hands‑on, field-focused role supports Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure work is completed to plans, specifications, and public-agency standards. It’s an excellent early-career opportunity for candidates with 1–3 years of construction experience or related internships/co‑ops.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate daily with Project Managers and Superintendents to support field operations and project execution
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals for field compliance
- Perform layout verification, line and grade checks, and clarify technical details on-site
- Assist with coordination of earthwork, grading, underground utilities, drainage, and related infrastructure activities
- Perform quantity take-offs, track installed quantities, and support pay applications and cost tracking
- Coordinate materials testing and interface with geotechnical teams
- Inspect materials and workmanship to verify contract and quality requirements
- Interface with field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, utility agencies, and project stakeholders
- Support safety compliance for trenching, traffic control, and operations around heavy equipment
- Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, and field documentation
- Proactively identify field issues and assist with change order documentation and resolution
- Contribute to preparation of work plans and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
What You Bring
- Working knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, materials, and field operations
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and public works standards
- Experience with construction project management software such as Procore (or similar)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced field environment
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with field personnel and project teams
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and documentation abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Adaptability to changing field conditions and project needs
- Safety-first mindset and commitment to quality and compliance
Education | Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Management, or a related field
- Approximately 1–3 years of experience in heavy civil or infrastructure construction (internships and co-ops accepted)
Preferred / Additional Experience
- Experience managing RFIs, submittals, and drawings in Procore
- Exposure to geotechnical or construction materials testing
- Familiarity with public works standards (DOT, municipal, AASHTO, FHWA)
- Field experience supporting earthwork, utilities, or site development projects
Compensation (Estimated)
- Estimated annual pay: $77,765 per year (estimated). Actual compensation may vary based on experience and location.
Location & working conditions
- This is a field-based role located in Brownsville, TX. Expect regular outdoor work, site visits, and coordination across project locations in the region. Ability to travel between project sites as needed and work around heavy equipment is required.
