Role overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Field Engineer (Field Engineer 1) to support heavy civil construction projects across the U.S. West Coast, including Alaska and Hawaii. This role combines field layout and survey support, office engineering tasks (material takeoffs, RFIs, job-cost entry), and exposure to district estimating work. Candidates must be willing to travel and relocate as project needs require.
Key responsibilities
- Field layout, surveying support and compilation of as-built data
- Interpret drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
- Perform material and quantity takeoffs and basic engineering calculations
- Prepare work plans, work packages, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and daily reports
- Compile and confirm daily labor timesheets; enter data into job-cost systems
- Support purchasing activities, schedule material deliveries and maintain project records
- Assist in generating change orders and prepare as-built documentation for review
- Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox talks and safety training
- Support and supervise subcontractor operations as required
- Assist district estimating with quantity takeoffs, time studies and bid support
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related engineering field (civil, mechanical, construction management, mining, geotechnical)
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.5
- Willingness to travel and relocate to support project needs across the West Coast (including Alaska & Hawaii)
- Ability to access all points of a construction site in varied climates and environments
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; team player who can work independently
- Strong time-management, attention to detail, and a demonstrated work ethic
- Commitment to jobsite safety, ethics and integrity
- Previous internship or construction experience preferred
- Must be able to work without sponsorship now or in the future
Compensation & benefits
- Base compensation: $79,000/yr - $87,000/yr (actual pay may vary based on experience, education, location)
