Position Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an Entry-Level Field Engineer to support heavy civil construction projects across the U.S. West Coast (including Alaska and Hawaii). This full-time role combines hands-on field engineering, office engineering support, and estimating tasks. You’ll gain practical construction experience, contribute to major infrastructure work, and have opportunities for career growth within the district.
District Overview
Confidential Client’s Northwest District specializes in earthwork, transportation, roadways, water resources, and underground utilities. Projects range in size and complexity; successful candidates are adaptable, safety-focused, and ready to travel or relocate as project needs demand.
Location & Travel
Assignments will be determined near your start date. Projects may be located throughout the West Coast, including Alaska and Hawaii. Candidates must be willing and able to travel and relocate as business requires.
What You’ll Do
Field Engineering:
- Assist crews by interpreting drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Perform quantity calculations from field measurements and percent-complete assessments.
- Support field surveying and layout (elevations, control points, as-built data).
- Assist with daily labor timesheet compilation and basic Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).
- Participate in site safety reviews, toolbox talks, and safety training.
- Order and schedule material deliveries; coordinate and supervise field work groups.
Office Engineering:
- Perform material takeoffs from drawings and contract documents.
- Complete basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field needs.
- Compile submittal/transmittal data for customers, vendors, subcontractors, and agencies.
- Support purchase order and subcontract preparation and minor procurement tasks.
- Maintain project recordkeeping (daily reports, photos, RFIs, memos) and enter data into job-cost systems.
- Assist with as-built documentation and change-order support for review by project management.
Estimating:
- Review historical data and incorporate production and cost information for bids.
- Perform plan and specification reviews to identify project risks for senior estimators.
- Complete material and quantity takeoffs in accordance with bid documents.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a construction-related engineering field (civil, mechanical, construction management, mining, geotechnical).
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
- Willingness to work in heavy civil construction and travel/relocate as required.
- Ability to access all points of construction sites across varied climates.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
- Safety-first mindset and commitment to ethics and integrity.
- Previous internship experience preferred.
- Must be able to work without sponsorship now or in the future.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base compensation: $79,000/yr - $87,000/yr (actual pay depends on experience, education, location).
