What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking a Family Services Specialist I to deliver entry-level casework while training across program areas including Adult/Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, Foster Care/Adoption, Child Care, and Employment Services. This role works under close supervision while building toward full-performance responsibilities.
- Interpret laws, policies and regulations as they apply to assigned programs
- Monitor, coordinate and administer program services
- Interview and assess client needs, strengths and risk factors
- Develop, document and implement service plans
- Provide case management to monitor compliance and progress
- Manage program waiting lists and track service expenditures
- Complete required federal, state and local reporting and planning
- Coordinate services with other agencies and participate in multidisciplinary teams
- Provide after-hours on-call coverage and respond to protective services emergencies
- Serve as a community resource and provide referrals to other services
Key Responsibilities (Illustrative)
- Conduct interviews and assessments to determine appropriate services
- Prepare and maintain case records, reports and correspondence
- Make sound, documented recommendations within the framework of applicable laws and policies
- Track program budgets and process payments for services as needed
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, community partners and service providers
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field OR a Bachelor’s degree in any field plus a minimum of two years of related experience in Human Services as mandated by Virginia administrative code (Section 22VAC40-670-20)
- Basic knowledge of social work principles, human behavior and common social/economic/health problems
- Skill operating a motor vehicle and using a personal computer with common office software
- Strong verbal and written communication, assessment and documentation skills
- Ability to manage workload, plan tasks and maintain effective professional relationships
Preferred / Desirable
- BSW or MSW degree
- Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license (desirable)
- Previous experience in child protective services, adult protective services, foster care or related casework
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated salary: $65,270 per year (estimated figure from the source posting)
- Full-time position

Location & Work Conditions
- Work location: Tappahannock, VA
- Role requires travel within the service area and occasional after-hours on-call responses
