Overview

Confidential Client is seeking Family Services Specialist I/II candidates to join their Services Unit in Gloucester, VA. This role supports child welfare, adult protective services (APS), and foster care programs. The Family Services Specialist I is an entry-level role with structured training and mentorship; the Family Services Specialist II is a full-performance level responsible for independent casework and service plan implementation.


What You’ll Do

  • Interpret and apply laws, policies, and regulations for assigned programs
  • Interview and assess client needs (education/skill levels, abilities, interests, supports)
  • Develop, present, and implement individualized service plans
  • Provide case management and monitor client compliance with service plans
  • Coordinate services and referrals with community partners and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Manage program waiting lists and track related expenditures
  • Complete required federal, state, and local planning and reporting
  • Provide intake duties including entering APS/CPS referrals and community resource information
  • Provide after-hours on-call coverage and respond to child/adult protective services or foster care emergencies
  • Serve as a community resource and, when activated, perform emergency shelter duties

Hiring Range

  • $55,000 per year (May be higher depending on qualifications and budgetary considerations)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field plus a minimum of two years of appropriate, related experience in a Human Services area, as required by Virginia Board of Social Services (Section 22VAC40-670-20).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of social work principles, human behavior, motivational theory, and social/economic/health issues
  • Experience with case management, service plan development, and client assessment
  • Familiarity with state database systems and program tracking software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain detailed records
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals, families, and community partners to deliver services effectively

Special Requirements

  • Applicants will be subject to a Criminal History Background check, including FBI fingerprinting, Central Registry search, and DMV/driving record check.
