What You’ll Do
- Perform hands-on failure analysis and troubleshooting of electronic circuits, PCBs, and assemblies used in medical devices.
- Analyze analog and digital circuits to identify component-, circuit-, and assembly-level failures.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Inspect and characterize electronic components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, ICs, sensors, connectors).
- Identify common failure modes including opens, shorts, intermittent faults, degradation, overheating, and incorrect electrical behavior.
- Use lab equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, power supplies, signal generators, electronic loads) to isolate faults and determine root causes.
- Develop and execute structured troubleshooting and failure-analysis test plans.
- Design, build, modify, and assemble prototype circuits and test fixtures to support investigations.
- Document test results, observations, failure mechanisms, and root-cause findings in clear technical reports.
- Work cross-functionally with Electrical, Mechanical, Quality, Reliability, Manufacturing and R&D teams to support corrective and preventive actions.
- Follow laboratory, safety, quality, and documentation procedures consistent with regulated-product requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Strong foundation in electrical and electronic circuit analysis (analog & digital).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and circuit diagrams.
- Knowledge of common failure modes for electronic components and assemblies.
- Hands-on experience using lab test equipment:
- Digital multimeter (DMM)
- Oscilloscope
- Power supply
- Function / signal generator
- Electronic load
- Ability to design, solder, modify, and assemble prototype circuits or test fixtures.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship, academic project, lab, or co-op experience in electronics troubleshooting or failure analysis.
- Experience with PCB assemblies, circuit boards, or embedded electronics.
- Familiarity with SPICE-based simulation tools (LTspice, PSpice) and PCB/schematic tools (Altium, OrCAD, KiCad).
- Exposure to root-cause analysis methods (5-Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa).
- Experience in a regulated industry (medical devices, automotive, aerospace) or familiarity with FDA/ISO 13485 quality requirements.
- Experience with reliability, environmental, or functional testing.
