Role summary

Confidential Client seeks an Extension Educator (Family & Consumer Sciences) to lead local Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) programming and support 4‑H youth development in Washita County, OK. This full‑time educator will deliver research‑based education, partner with local advisory groups, and design and evaluate programs that strengthen families, youth, and communities.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide leadership for Family & Consumer Sciences programs and spend approximately 50% of time on FCS and 50% on 4‑H youth development.
  • Plan, implement, promote, and evaluate educational programs responsive to local needs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clientele, advisory groups, Oklahoma Home & Community Education (OHCE) members, schools, and community partners.
  • Deliver outreach and instruction using diverse methods (in‑person workshops, demonstrations, digital communications).
  • Use computing and communications technology to manage programs, report outcomes, and engage stakeholders.
  • Maintain required communication devices for outreach and coordination (incumbent’s salary includes compensation toward use of personal cellular device).
  • Travel within the county and region as needed; use of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required (official travel reimbursed).

Work schedule & appointment

  • Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Appointment length: Regular, continuous/until further notice.
  • Continuation of employment depends on performance, need, and available county funding.

Compensation

  • Base annual starting salary guidelines (per posting):
    • Bachelor’s degree (entry level): $44,000
    • Master’s degree: $50,000
  • Actual starting salary is based on education and relevant experience. Other compensation details noted as "commensurate with education and experience."

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or a similar health‑related field is required (degree must be conferred by agreed start date).
  • For candidates without an FCS degree, the following apply:
    • If no FCS or Education degree: complete two approved education courses (Pedagogy & Classroom Management) and, within two years, pass APK and FCS OSAT (certification costs are not covered by employer).
    • If an Education degree (not FCS): provide proof of passing PPAT or APK.
    • If alternatively certified in FCS with three years teaching experience: no additional requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for official duties.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to listen and engage diverse audiences.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage time and resources effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership in designing, promoting, delivering, and evaluating educational programs.
  • Evidence of relationship‑building with community groups, advisory committees, and stakeholders.
  • Competency with computing and computer‑based communications technology.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.
  • Previous experience in Cooperative Extension or closely related community education work.

Location & travel

  • Position is based in the Washita County Extension Office (Cordell, OK). Note: Extension educators are hired into the organization rather than a fixed geographic post; future relocation may be possible based on organizational needs.
