About the role

Confidential Client is hiring an Executive Chef to lead culinary operations at a client-operated retreat center in Garrison, NY. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for daily meal production for groups up to ~60 guests, training and mentoring cooks, menu design, procurement oversight, and ensuring food safety and quality standards across the operation.

Pay range: $56,270 — $72,820 per year (listed consistent with New York pay-transparency expectations).


What you’ll do

  • Lead day-to-day culinary operations for a high-volume retreat / hospitality site serving three meals daily.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor cooks — establish procedures, coach staff, and support career development.
  • Create and standardize menus that meet client needs, special dietary requirements, and cost targets.
  • Oversee purchasing and inventory to ensure quality ingredients and efficient, cost-effective sourcing.
  • Implement and enforce food-safety programs (ServSafe, HACCP) and sanitation standards.
  • Coordinate catering and group meal logistics for retreat groups and special events.
  • Manage scheduling, performance reviews, and routine HR decisions within the site team.
  • Monitor food costs, labor, and operational metrics; recommend process improvements to drive consistency and profitability.
  • Build strong relationships with onsite clients and stakeholders to continually improve service delivery.

What we’re looking for

  • Proven culinary expertise in high-volume, fast-paced kitchen environments.
  • Prior catering and/or institutional foodservice experience preferred.
  • 1–3 years of people management experience (scheduling, training, performance management).
  • Strong menu planning and recipe-costing skills; familiarity with special-diet meal preparation.
  • ServSafe certification and working knowledge of HACCP principles.
  • Comfortable with kitchen systems and basic back-office tools (inventory, ordering, scheduling).
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to implement processes independently.
  • Strong communication and client-service orientation.

Minimum qualifications

  • Associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, culinary diploma, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Management experience: 1–3 years.
  • Related kitchen experience: 1–3 years.
  • Required certifications: ServSafe (or equivalent) and HACCP awareness.
