Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Excitation Field Service Engineer to join the Generator Excitation Solutions team. You will support the application, integration, factory acceptance testing, and commissioning of excitation and voltage regulator systems for power projects. This is a field-focused role based in the Pittsburgh / Cranberry Township area with a Hybrid Work Option when not traveling.

This role requires extensive travel — up to 80% (including overnights and some weekends).


What You’ll Do

  • Apply and integrate excitation subsystem components (crowbar, de-excitation, field flashing, power conversion bridges, voltage regulator controllers) into fully functional excitation/voltage regulator systems that meet customer specifications.
  • Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT) to verify systems meet project and customer requirements.
  • Travel to customer sites for walkdowns, installations, maintenance, site acceptance testing (SAT), and commissioning; ensure safe, high-quality execution aligned with customer expectations.
  • Acquire, prepare, and maintain test equipment and field tools required to complete assignments.
  • Maintain clarity on project scope, schedule, hours, and milestones; work within budget and timeline constraints and escalate risks or changes promptly.
  • Proactively inform project managers of conditions, findings, or customer requests that could affect scope, schedule, cost, or safety.
  • Participate in training and professional development to stay current with evolving technologies and field-service best practices.

What We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals, design principles, and problem-solving methods.
  • A strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to analyze information and propose creative solutions.
  • Collaborative communication skills and the ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 80% of the time (overnights and occasional weekends).
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Co-op or internship experience in a technical or field-service environment.
  • Hands-on exposure to excitation systems, control equipment design, or electrical power systems.
  • Comfort presenting ideas and technical findings to diverse audiences.
