What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Estimating Engineer to support cost estimating for bids and negotiated proposals. This role will develop estimating skills and learn company processes and tools while gaining exposure to field operations and self-perform estimating.

  • Estimated salary: $114,727 per year (reported estimate)
  • Assist with quantity surveys of materials shown on project plans
  • Read, interpret, and outline project specifications
  • Maintain an audit trail for quantity surveys and estimates
  • Support vendor and subcontractor pricing, bid solicitation, and coordination
  • Distribute plans and specifications to vendors and subcontractors
  • Collaborate with project team members, subcontractors, vendors, and clients
  • Gain hands-on experience with self-perform estimating and onsite project support as opportunities arise

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications
  • Record and maintain documentation and audit trail for estimates
  • Solicit and coordinate pricing from vendors and subcontractors
  • Prepare supporting documentation for competitive bids and negotiated proposals
  • Use construction estimating software and required construction technology
  • Communicate clearly with internal teams and external partners
  • Escalate exceptions and complex issues to supervisors and recommend routine decisions as appropriate

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver accurate work on schedule
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
  • Familiarity with construction estimating software and construction technology
  • Basic knowledge of construction means and methods and trade scopes
  • Willingness to learn quantity surveying techniques and Lean principles
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with team members and external partners

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • Entry-level construction experience required (internships or practical coursework acceptable)
  • Career path: Estimating Engineer 2

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Full-time role; may require non-traditional hours to meet project needs
  • May require occasional overnight travel and onsite field exposure
  • Normal office environment, with potential exposure to extreme outdoor conditions
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Frequent: sitting and computer work; Occasional: standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling
