Overview

Confidential Client (a nonprofit focused on workforce education and human services) is hiring an ESL Instructor (Special Projects) in Pittsburgh, PA. This role develops contextualized ESL curriculum and lesson plans, delivers classroom instruction (virtual and in-person), tracks student progress to meet state contractual guidelines, and connects students to education, training, and employment opportunities. This is a regular, full-time, non-exempt position based at the South Side Opportunity Center with occasional travel between local centers.

What You’ll Do

• Develop contextualized ESL curriculum and lesson plans aligned with College & Career Readiness and English Language Proficiency standards
• Use state-approved online curriculum and Google Classroom to differentiate instruction
• Deliver classroom instruction using varied methods: lecture, Q&A, small groups, collaborative and self-directed learning
• Manage classroom activities, maintain a safe and productive learning environment, and resolve conflict
• Interpret informal and formal assessments and use results to measure and report student progress
• Maintain student records according to Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) guidelines and submit required reports
• Collaborate with Donated Goods & Retail (DGR) staff to integrate retail-relevant skills and facilitate job shadowing
• Support students with goal-setting, barrier removal, resource identification, and referrals to program staff when needed
• Attend staff meetings and required professional development

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field AND at least 1 year of relevant experience
• Experience teaching, tutoring, or facilitating ESL instruction for adults or youth
• Strong curriculum-development and lesson-planning skills
• Comfortable using Google Classroom and online/state-approved instructional tools
• Excellent communication and classroom management skills
• Ability to collaborate with non-instructional staff and translate business needs into instructional objectives

Required Clearances & Logistics

• Valid driver’s license, active insurance, and reliable transportation for local travel
• Completion of employer-assigned background checks prior to start (including National Criminal Background check)
• Provide current, valid clearances prior to first day: Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprints Clearance, and PATCH

Compensation & Schedule

• External hiring range: $18.98 - $19.75 per hour
• Retention bonus: $1,500 total (paid in two increments of $750 at months 6 and 12)
• Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-exempt
• Schedule: Monday–Friday between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM; position requires working two varying evenings per week
• Travel: Local travel between Opportunity Centers within the organization’s territory may be required

Location & Work Environment

• Primary work site: South Side Opportunity Center (attached to South Side retail store), Pittsburgh, PA
• May require travel to McKees Rocks Opportunity Center and other community sites
• Classes offered both virtually and in-person; this role will support both modalities
