What You’ll Do

This is an entry-level Epidemiologist role supporting population health surveillance, investigation, and analytics for maternal and child health programs. You will work under senior epidemiology staff and contribute to data-driven public health action.

• Conduct routine epidemiologic surveillance, data collection, cleaning, and analysis.
• Support outbreak and epidemiologic investigations; recommend evidence-based interventions.
• Prepare analytic summaries, technical reports, and literature reviews.
• Provide scientific and technical assistance to public, private, and nonprofit partners.
• Contribute to program evaluation, quality improvement activities, and grant writing.
• Participate in internal/external workgroups and occasional after-hours emergency responses.
• Help maintain confidential public health records following HIPAA and state privacy rules.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform statistical analyses and interpret findings to inform program decisions.
• Use and maintain public health surveillance databases; support data visualization and dashboards.
• Draft technical and non-technical summaries for stakeholders and leadership.
• Apply epidemiologic methods (descriptive, analytic, basic outbreak investigation).
• Support data-sharing and scientific consultation across agencies and community partners.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related life/science field.
• Demonstrated understanding of epidemiologic principles, research methods, and program evaluation.
• Experience with statistical software and database management (SAS proficiency preferred).
• Experience or familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI or equivalent).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and in teams.
• Valid driver’s license (if role duties require driving).

Selective / Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology may substitute for two years of applied experience.
• 3 years of applied public health epidemiology preferred if holding only a Bachelor’s.
• Experience working with U.S. public health and healthcare systems and electronic surveillance databases.
• Prior experience in maternal & child health or related program areas.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

• Knowledge of contemporary epidemiology, surveillance, and disease control practices.
• Skilled in compilation and evaluation of epidemiologic data and literature review methods.
• Ability to analyze surveillance data, interpret results, and recommend control measures.
• Familiarity with HIPAA, state/local privacy laws, and confidentiality in public health data.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and communicate findings clearly to diverse audiences.

Location, Schedule & Employment Details

• Work location: Phoenix, AZ — Hybrid (office at 150 N 18th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85007 with remote flexibility per program needs).
• Employment type: Full-time.
• Salary: $66,000 - $69,300 per year (DOE).
