Role Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist, Geologist, or Environmental Engineer to join a growing environmental consulting team in Somerset, NJ. This role offers hands-on field and office experience supporting environmental investigations, due diligence, and remediation projects across New Jersey. The position reports to senior technical staff and Licensed Site Remediation Professionals (LSRPs).
What You’ll Do
You will support project teams on environmental site work and technical deliverables, including:
- Support and perform field investigation and sampling activities (soil, groundwater, vapor intrusion) under supervision.
- Assist with environmental site inspections, drilling activities, subcontractor oversight, and construction monitoring.
- Collect, document, and organize field data, photos, and observations to support investigations and reports.
- Assist with laboratory data management, tabulation, and basic QA/QC review.
- Prepare tables, figures, and data summaries for technical reports and NJDEP submissions.
- Conduct historical and regulatory site research (databases, records, maps, aerial photos).
- Assist with Phase I and Phase II ESAs, Preliminary Assessments, Site Investigation and Remedial Investigation reports.
- Support preparation of proposals: scopes, approaches, and cost estimates.
- Help manage project scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and documentation.
- Communicate professionally with project managers, field staff, labs, subcontractors, clients, and regulators.
- Occasional travel, overtime, and weekend work as project schedules require.
Qualifications
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, environmental science, geology, engineering, or related fields. Recent graduates encouraged to apply.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
- Familiarity with environmental investigation, sampling, and remediation concepts preferred.
- Familiarity with NJDEP regulations and remediation guidance a plus but not required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary consulting team.
- Ability and willingness to perform field work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with current refresher preferred (not required for those who haven’t obtained it yet).

About the Team & Location
This role is based in Somerset, NJ and will contribute to environmental investigation and remediation projects throughout New Jersey. You will train with experienced environmental professionals and LSRPs and gain exposure to a wide range of project types and contaminants, including petroleum, solvents, metals, and PFAS.
