What You’ll Do

  • Assist with transportation projects by coordinating with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, planners, and surveyors
  • Collect field data including soil and groundwater sampling, tree surveys, wetland assessments, protected-species surveys, and gopher tortoise relocation
  • Conduct benthic resource surveys (seagrasses and corals) when required
  • Analyze field and laboratory data, prepare graphics, write technical reports, and assemble environmental permit applications
  • Provide technical support for local, state, and federal permitting for transportation projects (FDOT District 6 scope)
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the manager

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field
  • Able to identify Florida trees and wetland plants in the field
  • Comfortable collecting data in hot, remote, or swampy field conditions
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis; our client is unable to sponsor or transfer employment visas

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Knowledge of threatened and endangered species that occur in Florida
  • Experience with GIS or AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with Florida and federal permitting rules
  • PADI or NAUI certifications preferred for certain benthic surveys

Location & Schedule

  • Primary work location: Laud Lakes, FL (role supports projects in Miami‑Dade and Monroe counties)
  • Remote-eligible / telecommute status with a mix of office and field work — travel to field sites and client locations required

Work Environment & Physical Demands

About the Opportunity

This is an entry-level to early-career Environmental Scientist role supporting transportation-related environmental work under a districtwide contract.
