Position overview
This entry-level Environmental Scientist / Geologist role supports environmental site characterization, investigation, and remediation projects. The position combines significant fieldwork (approximately 50–75% initially) with office tasks such as data analysis, report writing, and project coordination. You will be trained in soil and groundwater sampling, groundwater well installation oversight, subcontractor management, remediation system operations, and vapor intrusion/soil gas surveys. This opening is with a confidential client based in Irvine, CA.
What you’ll do
- Assist Project Managers and Task Managers with environmental site characterization, investigation and remediation.
- Conduct and supervise field activities including soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling.
- Support drilling oversight for soil sampling and groundwater well installation.
- Oversee subcontractors and coordinate subcontract preparation.
- Prepare technical documents: work plans, technical reports, letters, and memoranda.
- Compile, analyze, and interpret data; prepare cost estimates, health & safety plans, and regulatory file reviews.
- Contribute to proposal writing, project strategy, schedule and budget tracking.
- Support emergency response efforts when required; may include unanticipated travel and work outside standard hours.
- Perform fieldwork with a constant focus on health and safety.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or closely related physical science.
- Preferred:
- Master of Science in Geology or related field.
- Current OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training.
- Skills & attributes:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, independent thinker, and effective team member.
- Able to work in the field frequently and travel regionally (up to 1–2 days per week on average); occasional U.S. travel up to two weeks.
- Valid driver’s license.
Work location & travel
- Primary location: Irvine, CA (on-site and fieldwork required).
- Estimated travel: up to 75% during the first two years; typically decreases to ~50% by year three. Travel expenses reimbursed.
Compensation & benefits
- Salary range (posted): $56,798 – $90,876 per year. Actual pay depends on experience, education, internal equity, project, and location.
