Environmental Scientist
The Environmental Scientist at Confidential Client is an entry-level role focused on conducting stormwater compliance inspections, BMP verification, and environmental fieldwork primarily around Corpus Christi, TX. Position Overview
This is a field-based Environmental Scientist (Staff Scientist / Scientist I) role supporting environmental and AEC projects in the Corpus Christi area. The position is primarily field work (~75%) with the remaining time spent on reporting and project documentation (~25%). The role is suited to entry-level to early-career environmental professionals who enjoy outdoor work and want to build hands-on experience in stormwater compliance, SWPPP/BMP inspections, wetlands, GIS, and technical reporting. You will be employed by a Confidential Client.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct stormwater inspections along transmission line corridors and other environmental sites.
- Hike and drive along transmission line corridors to inspect Best Management Practices (BMPs).
- Verify BMPs are properly installed and functioning to prevent sediment discharge from project sites.
- Document field observations and maintain accurate field records, photos, and notes.
- Prepare concise technical reports and routine project documentation based on field data.
- Support SWPPP development, maintenance, and implementation checks.
- Assist with wetland delineations, biological/environmental fieldwork, and mapping as needed.
- Use GIS/ArcGIS for mapping and project support when applicable.
- Follow established field procedures and maintain strong commitment to health and safety.
- Communicate effectively with project managers and teammates while working independently in the field.
- Travel as required for initial training and cross-training.
Who We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
- Entry-level candidates are encouraged; previous environmental or field experience is a plus. Direct stormwater experience is not required.
- Coursework or hands-on exposure to environmental fieldwork, wetlands, stormwater, SWPPP, or environmental reporting is beneficial.
- Wetland delineation experience is highly desirable.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather and terrain; ability to hike and drive along transmission lines.
- Strong technical writing, verbal communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage field assignments, and maintain accurate records.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- GIS/ArcGIS experience is a plus.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving history required.
- Must be located within approximately 50 miles of Corpus Christi, TX (field coverage area); local travel required.
