Position overview

This Entry Level Voice, Data, Security (VDS) Engineer role is based in Houston, TX and supports Life Sciences and advanced manufacturing projects (semiconductor fabs, data centers, and other high-tech facilities). You will develop computer-aided designs for communications, security, and low-voltage systems using AutoCAD and Revit, collaborate across disciplines, and support delivery of complex design packages for confidential client projects.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist with design and drafting of communications, security, and low-voltage systems for life sciences and manufacturing facilities
  • Create layouts, 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD and Revit
  • Prepare electronic document files, sketches and design details for deliverables
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical and architectural disciplines to integrate systems
  • Follow standards such as ANSI/TIA and BISCI and CSI Divisions 27 & 28 where applicable
  • Support design leads to deliver construction documents and vendor coordination
  • Participate in design reviews, QA checks, and client communications as needed

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline
  • At least 1 year of experience (internship or professional) designing communications/security systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills; able to multi-task
  • Self-motivated and comfortable coordinating with other disciplines and customers
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred qualifications

  • 3.0 GPA or higher (if recently graduated)
  • Local to Houston, TX or a nearby Life Sciences office (no relocation required)
  • Passed or pursuing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Familiarity with ANSI/TIA and BISCI standards
  • Experience with CSI Divisions 27 & 28
  • AutoCAD and Revit design experience
  • Exposure to NEC and electrical design requirements

Skills & tools

  • AutoCAD (2D drafting)
  • Revit (BIM / 3D modeling)
  • Knowledge of communications/security system standards (ANSI/TIA, BISCI)
  • Strong documentation practices and electronic file management
  • Basic understanding of electrical distribution and NEC considerations
