What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking Entry‑Level Transportation Engineers to support traffic and roadway projects from concept through completion on state DOT/DOH engagements. You will contribute to traffic control, signing, pavement marking, signal and lighting design, data collection and analysis, and field inspection support while working with a multi‑disciplinary team.

  • Prepare signing, striping, temporary traffic control, signal, lighting and ITS construction plans and specifications.
  • Gather traffic and roadway data (sight distance, ADT, crash data, Before/After studies, infrastructure inventories) and prepare special studies.
  • Assist in developing and implementing traffic signal timing parameters and perform operational/maintenance checks for signals and ITS.
  • Support construction inspection and provide technical assistance to field inspectors to verify compliance with WVDOH specifications and plans.
  • Maintain and update as‑built plans and crash databases using LRS and GIS tools; prepare diagrams and reports.
  • Review construction plans for accuracy and provide coordinated comments to other functional groups.
  • Translate technical information into clear responses for clients, agency staff, and the public.
  • Assist with traffic control plan implementation, marking utility location oversight, and inspection activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Any level of traffic engineering experience is considered; candidates may be entry‑level or early career with interest in State DOH/DOT projects.
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn WVDOH design standards, Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and Traffic Engineering Manual guidance.
  • Proficiency (or willingness to learn) in Civil 3D, OpenRoad Designer, Synchro, and GIS tools.
  • Basic competency in data collection methods, traffic analysis, and report preparation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a professional approach to client interaction.
  • Reliable, team‑oriented, and detail focused.

Preferred / Helpful Skills

  • Master’s degree (MSCE) is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with Transportation Information Systems (TIS), Linear Referencing Systems (LRS), and GIS for crash and inventory analysis.
  • Familiarity with project scheduling or management tools such as MS Project.
  • Experience in construction plan preparation and field inspection practices.
  • Ability to train or mentor technicians and junior staff.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated salary: $84,455 per year (estimated).
