Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Transportation Engineer/Planner to join their consultancy practice in Glendale, CO. This role is designed for recent graduates or early-career professionals who are eager to build technical skills across transportation planning, traffic operations, and design while receiving mentoring and exposure to a wide range of projects.
What You’ll Do
You will work under the guidance of experienced staff to support multimodal transportation projects. Typical responsibilities include:
- Conduct transportation analyses and prepare technical memos and reports
- Support traffic operations, forecasting, and safety studies
- Assist with transportation design tasks (signing/striping, bikeways, signals/ITS)
- Participate in client and stakeholder meetings; prepare presentations and outreach materials
- Perform site visits and collect field data
- Contribute to project coordination and limited project management activities
- Explore opportunities to support internal research & development initiatives
- Learn and adopt new tools and workflows while applying professional judgment
What Your First Year May Look Like
By 1 month:
- Participate in on-the-job training and mentoring
- Contribute to multiple projects in supportive roles
By 6 months:
- Build proficiency with technical software and prepare deliverables (memos, reports, presentations)
- Take on more independent tasks and responsibility
By 12 months:
- Lead small project tasks, participate in client meetings, and deepen expertise in select topic areas
Qualifications
We welcome applicants who demonstrate curiosity, teamwork, and initiative. Relevant qualifications and experience may include:
- Bachelor’s degree completed (or master’s in progress) in transportation, civil or electrical engineering, urban & regional planning, geography, math, statistics, economics, or related field
- Relevant coursework or internship experience in transportation planning, traffic operations, signal design, transit planning, travel demand modeling, bicycle/pedestrian planning, or related areas
- Familiarity or exposure to technical tools such as Microsoft Excel; GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS); CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation); traffic analysis tools (HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, Sidra); travel demand models (TransCAD, Cube, VISUM, Emme); and programming (Python or R)
- EIT is preferred for engineering candidates but not required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, public speaking experience preferred
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, organize work, and collaborate effectively
- Entrepreneurial mindset, proactive communication, and eagerness to learn
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $74,000 - $77,000 per year (placement depends on education, experience, and qualifications)
