What You’ll Do
This entry-level transportation engineering role gives you hands-on exposure to roadway and infrastructure design work. You’ll learn from senior engineers and contribute to real deliverables.
- Get hands-on with roadway and highway design: horizontal/vertical alignments, typical sections, and grading plans
- Build construction documents: plan sets, profiles, cross-sections, and details
- Run calculations for roadway geometry, drainage, pavement design, and quantities
- Contribute to specifications, cost estimates, and quantity take-offs
- Apply state and local DOT design standards to project work
- Collaborate with civil/site, drainage, structures, utilities, and survey teams
- Participate in design reviews and learn from redlines and senior feedback
- Support field visits and construction observation when needed
- Keep project files and documentation organized
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Internship or co-op experience in roadway or transportation design is a strong plus
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D
- Bonus: experience with OpenRoads (ORD)
- Solid grasp of roadway design fundamentals (geometry, drainage, basic pavement concepts)
- Curiosity, a willingness to learn, and the ability to take direction from experienced engineers
