What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking an Entry-level Transportation Design Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of traffic and multimodal infrastructure projects. In this role you will work under the guidance of licensed engineers and collaborate with planners, analysts, technicians, and other designers to produce Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) and construction support for projects such as complete streets, traffic signals, ITS, lighting, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, transit access, and signing/striping.
- Provide support for planning and feasibility efforts by creating concept designs and planning-level cost estimates
- Develop and analyze design alternatives for traffic engineering and multimodal projects
- Conduct field visits to assess existing conditions and site constraints
- Prepare design plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates (PS&E)
- Provide design support during construction (RFIs, contractor submittals, site visits)
- Communicate technical concepts clearly in memos, reports, and project meetings
- Use and learn software tools commonly used in the discipline (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Synchro/SimTraffic, Bluebeam, AGi32, ProjectWise)
- Participate in project lifecycle activities from scoping to construction support and client coordination
- Work toward state licensure experience requirements under the mentorship of professional engineers
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification, or ability to obtain within 12 months
- Academic or practical experience in traffic engineering or transportation design (coursework, internships, or project-based work)
- Familiarity or coursework with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is highly desirable
- Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills
- Critical thinking, professional judgment, and openness to learning new tools and techniques
- Team-oriented, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $70,000 - $76,000 per year. Placement within the stated pay range will be determined based upon education, experience, and qualifications.
