Entry-Level Transmission Engineer

Role Summary
Confidential Client is hiring an Entry-Level Transmission Engineer to join their Transmission & Distribution team in Rochester, NY. This full-time position supports the design and development of overhead and underground transmission projects, working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams. The role is suited for a recent graduate or early-career engineer (0–3 years) who wants hands-on experience in transmission line design and the opportunity to grow toward technical leadership.
- Salary range: $60,000 - $65,000 per year (New York pay transparency)
- Employment type: Full time
- Location: Rochester, NY (on-site / field visits as required)
Responsibilities
- Support creation of detailed engineering drawings for overhead and underground transmission lines following client and industry standards
- Help develop complete construction-ready design packages (construction staking tables, stringing charts, cable pulling plans, etc.)
- Develop structure framing details, hardware, insulator, and grounding details
- Produce load-bearing element details (duct banks, vaults) including spacers, splicing, and grounding information
- Perform design calculations and produce clear technical reports to support designs
- Assist with cost estimates and maintain accurate project records and documentation
- Participate in periodic site visits to verify design intent and provide construction support
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and attend project meetings
- Learn and follow QA/QC, document control, and safety procedures
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program
- 0–3 years of relevant experience in utility/transmission or related engineering work
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and construction drawings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; professional team behavior
- Willingness to pursue a PE license over time (PE not required at hire)
Preferred Technical Skills
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- AutoDesk (AutoCAD & AutoCAD Civil 3D)
- Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS Pole, PLS Tower is a plus
- CYMCAP and/or ASPEN experience is a plus
- Comfort with field visits and basic site verification tasks
