What You’ll Do

This Entry-Level Traffic and Transportation Engineer (Whitneyville, CT) will support multi-modal transportation planning and traffic engineering projects. You will work on traffic studies, conceptual roadway and pedestrian improvements, field data collection, and technical analyses that inform municipal, regional, and private-sector clients.

• Support traffic planning, design, and engineering tasks for roadway, pedestrian, transit, and parking projects
• Assist with data collection efforts and perform field observations
• Run traffic analyses using industry tools and prepare technical summaries
• Produce conceptual plans and collaborate with engineers, planners, and scientists
• Prepare written reports and presentation materials for clients and agencies
• Participate in professional organizations and continuing education

Responsibilities

• Provide traffic planning, design, and engineering services for client projects
• Prepare studies addressing multimodal transportation issues: vehicular traffic, transit, pedestrian flow, street-user safety, and parking
• Conduct field visits and oversee data collection (counts, observations, site photos)
• Perform conceptual design for proposed roadway and pedestrian facility improvements
• Coordinate with internal teams (planners, engineers, scientists) and external stakeholders
• Draft client-ready reports, memos, and presentation materials

Qualifications

• 0–3 years of relevant experience in traffic engineering or transportation planning
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or related field
• E.I.T. certification, PE registration, or ability/desire to obtain professional credentials
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience with GIS and/or CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpenRoads) preferred
• Familiarity with traffic analysis software (Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, or similar) is a plus
• Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one
• Willingness to travel within the region for site visits

Compensation

Compensation for this position ranges from $75,000 to $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience. This position is offered by Confidential Client; specific compensation and benefits will be provided during the interview process.
