What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level SUE Technician to assist on subsurface utility engineering (SUE), surveying, and multidisciplinary field projects. This is a hands-on role focused on learning utility locating techniques and supporting field crews.

  • Assist experienced SUE technicians with identification, locating, and mapping of underground utility systems.
  • Learn to operate and maintain electromagnetic locating equipment and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) under supervision.
  • Support field investigations, utility designating, records research, and collection of utility information.
  • Read and interpret basic utility maps, plans, sketches, and project drawings with guidance.
  • Assist with surveying and field data collection for land surveying and multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Prepare accurate daily field notes, sketches, photographs, reports, and other project documentation.
  • Enter and organize field data using electronic data collection systems and project software.
  • Help review field information and SUE deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in project scheduling, coordination, site safety meetings, and equipment inventory/maintenance.
  • Represent Confidential Client professionally when interacting with clients, contractors, municipalities, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Candidates who demonstrate enthusiasm for field work, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn technical locating and surveying skills will be successful.

  • Associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or coursework in land surveying, engineering technology, geology, environmental science, forestry, construction, or a related technical field preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with strong interest in surveying, utilities, construction, or related fields will be considered.
  • Strong interest in subsurface utility engineering (SUE), utility locating, surveying, and field data collection.
  • Ability to learn and safely operate technical field equipment with training and supervision.
  • Basic map-reading skills and willingness to develop technical drawing interpretation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team and follow direction from senior technicians and project managers.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, InRoads, or similar software is a plus.
  • Previous experience in surveying, construction, utilities, GIS, or environmental fieldwork is a plus but not required.
  • OSHA or other safety certifications are a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding field activities, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to travel locally and work occasional overtime based on project needs.

Salary & Benefits

  • Pay range: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour. The specific salary offered may be influenced by factors including relevant experience, education, and work location (in compliance with applicable pay-transparency laws).
