This Opportunity
This is an early-career / entry-level role on a substation and power delivery team supporting large-scale electric grid modernization projects. You will join a confidential client’s engineering practice in Syracuse, NY and contribute to substation planning, layout and basic design tasks while working alongside experienced engineers. From day one you’ll gain hands-on exposure to feasibility, site evaluation, one-line diagrams, layouts, grounding and basic SCADA interfaces that support safe and reliable power delivery.
What You’ll Do
- Support multidisciplinary coordination for site evaluation, planning, and infrastructure integration
- Contribute technical input for proposals and scope definition
- Assist on substation projects through planning, design, procurement, and construction phases
- Coordinate with internal teams, utilities, vendors, and external stakeholders
- Participate in site visits and field activities to validate design assumptions
- Help develop project schedules, deliverables, and budgets
- Perform substation design tasks such as one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Support layouts, grounding, lightning protection, and basic SCADA system documentation
- Prepare general arrangement drawings, sections, BOMs, and cable/conduit plans
- Support equipment specifications and vendor coordination
- Follow QA/QC procedures and verify accuracy of deliverables
- Prepare calculations, reports and technical documentation
- Work collaboratively with senior engineers and project leads and maintain compliance with applicable codes and standards
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret technical documents
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; a team-oriented mindset
- Able to manage assignments with moderate supervision and meet project timelines
- Demonstrated attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Willingness to work project-driven schedules (may extend beyond typical workweek)
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT certification and progressing toward PE licensure
Compensation & Benefits
- Expected salary range: $71,700 – $87,700 per year (posted by Confidential Client)

- Relocation assistance is not available for this position
Location & Work Arrangements
- Primary work location: Syracuse, NY (based on the hiring location for this posting)
- Occasional travel to project sites may be required
