Responsibilities

As an Entry Level Substation Engineer (Contract-to-Hire), you will work with experienced engineers and project managers to help design, document, and support high-voltage substation projects. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the design of high-voltage substations (69 kV to 500 kV), including physical layout, protection & control systems, grounding, and civil/structural coordination
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, one-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Perform electrical analyses such as short-circuit, load-flow, voltage-drop, and grounding calculations
  • Prepare technical specifications, bills of materials, and construction packages
  • Support preparation of engineering reports, design narratives, and client deliverables
  • Maintain organized project documentation and follow quality-control procedures
  • Participate in project meetings with clients, utilities, and internal stakeholders
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, and environmental teams to ensure integrated designs
  • Learn from mentors, engage in on-the-job training, and stay current with industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC)

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • MUST have completed coursework in Power Systems Analysis, Power Systems Protection, Energy Delivery Systems, and Power Labs
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)

Additional Skills & Nice-to-Haves

  • 3D modeling experience (Revit, Civil 3D, Inventor, etc.) is a plus
  • Knowledge of construction practices and constructability
  • Experience with proposal writing or project estimating
  • Working knowledge of scheduling and project controls processes
  • EIT certification or a Master’s degree in engineering is a plus

Work Environment

You will join a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and drafters based in Lake Mary, CA. The role is fully onsite with a collaborative office environment, mentorship from licensed engineers, and opportunities for professional development including support for EIT/PE progression.


Job Type & Location

This is a Contract-to-Hire position based in Lake Mary, CA (onsite).


Pay and Benefits

Pay range: $33.65 - $38.46 per hour.

Individual pay within the range will depend on qualifications, experience, and other job-related factors.
