About the Role
Confidential Client is seeking an Entry-Level Structural Engineer to join their Buildings & Places / engineering team in Virginia Beach, VA. This early-career role provides hands-on experience developing structural calculations, preparing contract drawings, supporting condition assessments, and assisting with construction administration — all under the mentorship of senior structural engineers. The position supports projects across government, commercial, and industrial sectors and offers strong technical training and career development.
What You’ll Do
- Assist in the completion of a variety of structural engineering projects across multiple sectors.
- Perform structural calculations and prepare contract drawings under senior supervision.
- Use structural modeling and finite element (FEA) tools as directed by lead engineers.
- Support condition assessments and structural investigations.
- Assist with construction administration activities including submittal reviews, RFIs, and site observations.
- Manage assigned tasks to meet project schedules.
- Collaborate closely with team members and learn from experienced industry professionals.
- Build core skills required to progress toward a licensed design professional role.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited program.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required for travel to project sites and offices; employment contingent on a Motor Vehicle Records review.
- Due to the nature of certain client contracts and site access, U.S. citizenship is required.
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior internship or related professional experience is a plus.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) credential preferred.
- Experience with Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to work both independently and in teams.
Additional Details
- Employment type: Contract / Full-time (hybrid schedule).
- This position requires a hybrid work schedule with regular in-office days in Virginia Beach, VA; selected candidates must be available to work on-site as scheduled.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
- Sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization is not available for this role. This role requires eligibility to work in the U.S. (see citizenship requirement above).
- As part of the hiring process, newly hired employees will be required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at a Confidential Client office location.
