Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry-Level Structural Engineer / Designer to join their Oakland, CA office. This early-career role offers hands-on structural analysis and design experience, mentorship toward PE licensure, exposure to client teams, and opportunities to work on seismic and building-design projects.


What You’ll Do

  • Perform structural analysis and design tasks under the guidance of licensed engineers, applying engineering principles and applicable building codes.
  • Produce clear, accurate contract documents and technical deliverables that meet project standards.
  • Participate in client and multidisciplinary team meetings; prepare technical documentation and communicate professionally in writing and conversation.
  • Conduct site visits with experienced staff to observe construction, document field conditions, and connect design work to real-world performance.
  • Pursue technical growth through mentorship, feedback, continuing education, and work that supports progression toward PE licensure.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks, ask for context when needed, and contribute ideas to the project team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in structural engineering is strongly preferred. Exceptional candidates with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering plus 1–2 years of highly technical structural design experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated proficiency (via advanced coursework or verified project experience) in:
    • Advanced steel design
    • Advanced reinforced concrete design
    • Advanced structural analysis
    • Structural dynamics
    • Earthquake engineering (especially for West Coast assignments)
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.40 or higher; strong graduate performance expected where applicable.
  • Unofficial transcripts (undergraduate and graduate, as applicable).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States for any employer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Experience or coursework in wood design, prestressed concrete, finite element analysis, or nonlinear analysis (West Coast locations).
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as AutoCAD, Revit, RISA, RAM, SAP2000, ETABS, Tekla, Mathcad, Excel, or Python.
  • Demonstrated initiative, leadership potential, and commitment to collaborative learning.
  • Prior seismic analysis and building-design experience is a plus for West Coast roles.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated salary range for this role: $84,000 – $112,000 per year (good-faith estimate; final offer depends on location, experience, and qualifications).
