What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring an Entry-Level Structural Engineer to support bridge and transportation-structure projects in Glen Allen, VA. This is an early-career role where you will contribute to analysis, design, documentation, and construction support across highway, railroad, and pedestrian bridge projects while learning from senior engineers.
- Assist in structural analysis and design of highway, railroad, and pedestrian bridges to AASHTO, DOT, and local agency standards.
- Prepare engineering calculations, design reports, and technical documentation under senior guidance.
- Produce and revise bridge plans, details, and construction documents using MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenBridge, or similar tools.
- Support load ratings, inspections, and condition assessments for existing structures.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with cost estimates for rehabilitation and replacement projects.
- Coordinate with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, and traffic engineering team members.
- Participate in field inspections, data collection, and construction observation.
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, and contractor RFIs during construction.
- Assist with feasibility studies, alternatives evaluations, and engineering studies.
- Follow client requirements, applicable codes, and quality-control procedures.
- Support project managers with schedule tracking and project documentation.
- Use structural modeling and bridge-analysis software for design verification.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related ABET-accredited program.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
- Available to begin in Spring/Summer 2027 (expected).
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Master of Science with a structural engineering concentration.
- Familiarity with AASHTO bridge design practices and codes.
- Experience or coursework in bridge analysis tools (LEAP Bridge, STAAD.Pro, AASHTOWare BrR, CSiBridge, MDX).
- Experience with MicroStation, OpenBridge, and AutoCAD.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact professionally with clients.
- Organized, analytical, and able to work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Available for periodic travel.
- Relevant internship, co-op, or work experience is beneficial.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $65,000 to $80,000 (actual offer based on education, experience, and location).
- Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, life, disability, paid time off, retirement savings, and other programs depending on employment status with Confidential Client.
