Position overview

This role is an entry-level Structural Engineer focused on advanced analysis and seismic/dynamic evaluation. The confidential client’s Engineering group applies state-of-the-art analysis and probabilistic methods to challenging projects such as power generation, national defense, precision structures, and other non-building systems. This position is based in Balboa, CA.

What You’ll Do

• Plan and perform engineering analyses of structures, systems, and components for extreme events (earthquakes, wind, explosions, impacts) and unconventional requirements.
• Develop finite element models and perform linear and nonlinear analyses using commercial FEA tools.
• Perform seismic soil‑structure interaction and dynamic response analyses.
• Conduct field walkdown assessments of power generation, defense, industrial, and petrochemical sites.
• Prepare calculations, technical reports, and documentation of engineering analyses.
• Support structural design for new structures and retrofit projects.
• Review and mentor work from analysts, technicians, and drafters as needed.
• Assist with proposals, budgeting, scheduling, and client communications.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of professional structural engineering experience (candidates with 2–4 years will also be considered).
• Master of Science, Master of Engineering, or Ph.D. in Structural/Civil/Seismic Engineering preferred. Bachelor’s candidates on track to complete a Master’s will be considered.
• Academic emphasis in structural analysis, structural dynamics, earthquake/seismic engineering, finite element modeling, and concrete/steel design.
• Familiarity with probabilistic methods, risk and reliability, uncertainty quantification, random vibrations, or stochastic processes preferred.
• Experience or familiarity with commercial FEA tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, LS-DYNA, GT STRUDL, and/or SAP2000.
• Proficiency in engineering computation and scripting tools (Mathcad, MATLAB, Python, VBA, or similar).
• Ability and willingness to travel and perform supervised field inspections.
• Strong written and verbal English communication and professional client interaction skills.
• Ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) registration within five years.
• May be required to pass security clearance checks on specific projects.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report, if applicable.

Compensation & Sign‑on Bonus

This posting includes a good-faith pay range pursuant to applicable pay transparency laws for California.

• Bachelor’s degree: $79,560 - $81,640 per year
• Master’s degree: $83,200 - $85,280 per year

This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus. Final pay offered will depend on experience, qualifications, and work location. Base salary is part of a total compensation package that may include discretionary bonus opportunities and benefits.
