What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking an Entry-Level Software Systems Engineer to join an on-site Groton, CT engineering team supporting surface-ship systems. You will work on integration, delivery, and verification of software and platform components in a production-like lab environment, supporting mission-critical naval systems.

  • Package, deploy, and maintain containerized applications (Zarf, Docker, Kubernetes or similar)
  • Deliver updates via scripted and automated pipelines (GitLab CI/CD)
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (Bash, PowerShell) and configuration tooling (Ansible)
  • Configure, secure, and troubleshoot Linux and Windows servers and virtual machines (VMware/Proxmox)
  • Perform manual integration testing, debugging, and defect tracking in lab environments
  • Produce clear technical documentation, integration reports, and dashboard metrics (HTML familiarity helpful)
  • Communicate professionally with internal teams and government stakeholders using Jira, Confluence, email, and other collaboration tools
  • Explore and apply AI tools to improve engineering workflows and testing efficiency

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or related field
  • Foundational understanding of systems integration and ability to diagnose multi-component issues
  • Working knowledge of Linux and/or Windows server environments
  • Familiarity or strong aptitude with scripting (Bash, PowerShell) and CI/CD (GitLab)
  • Ability to author clear technical documentation and professional written communications
  • Ability to perform hands-on integration testing and to work in an Agile team environment

Preferred / Value-Add Skills

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Zarf)
  • Exposure to automation frameworks (Ansible) and virtual infrastructure (VMware, Proxmox)
  • Working familiarity with one or more application languages: Java, Vue.js, .NET MAUI, and/or Go
  • Familiarity with vulnerability management and foundational cybersecurity practices
  • CompTIA Security+ or willingness to obtain
  • Experience applying AI/ML tools to engineering or DevSecOps workflows

Clearance & Eligibility

  • Department of Defense Secret clearance is preferred at time of hire.
  • Due to federal contract requirements, U.S. citizenship is required. This requirement is job-related and consistent with applicable law.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • Salary (estimate provided by client): USD $77,843.00 - USD $86,358.00 per year (actual pay may vary based on experience and other factors)
