What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking an Entry Level Software Quality & Testing Engineer to join their Vehicle Software and Electronics Engineering organization. You will work with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies and Behavior Driven Development (BDD) to design and run tests that raise the built-in quality of embedded vehicle software.

  • Develop test cases and acceptance criteria at the solution, system, and feature level to identify anomalies, missed requirements, and performance issues early.
  • Create and improve automated test frameworks and continuous testing pipelines (e.g., Robot framework, CI integrations).
  • Translate functional, safety, and compliance requirements into test plans and lab setups.
  • Execute tests in multiple environments: software-in-the-loop (SIL), hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), test benches, and vehicles.
  • Record, track, and help resolve software defects; contribute learnings to the team knowledge base.
  • Collaborate frequently with controls, diagnostics, systems engineering, software, and other stakeholders.
  • Travel as required for labs, test vehicles, or cross-site collaboration.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Software, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.
  • Expected graduation between December 2026 and June 2027.
  • Able to work full-time (40 hours per week).
  • Must be able to report to Southeast Michigan locations for hybrid work (see Work Arrangement).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Embedded software development or embedded test experience.
  • Proficient with Python or similar scripting languages (R, C, C++, MATLAB, VBA).
  • Experience reading and debugging C/C++ source code.
  • Knowledge of applied controls theory at a system level.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle and Agile processes.
  • Experience with test automation and CI tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
  • Experience in software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test environments (dSPACE ControlDesk familiarity a plus).
  • Experience with CppUTest, MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow, or vehicle dynamics tools (CarSim).
  • Exposure to automotive communication tools/protocols (Ethernet, CAN, LIN) and tools such as ETAS INCA, Vector CANoe/CANape, Intrepid NeoVI.
  • Experience with Behavior Driven Development and Gherkin syntax.
  • Participation in automotive student teams (Formula SAE, EcoCAR, etc.) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Jira and version control systems (GitHub).

Work Arrangement

Hybrid — the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI or Warren, MI at least three times per week (or per business needs). Applicants should be able to work on-site in Southeast Michigan as required.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated compensation (from source listing): $98,890 per year — estimated.
