What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Software Engineer (0–3 years experience) to join a team developing command-and-control (C2) and autonomy software for uncrewed platforms (planes, boats, ground vehicles, submersibles). You will contribute to a web-based user interface and back-end services used to task and monitor unmanned systems while following software safety and configuration-management processes.

  • Work on an Agile development team delivering iterative capabilities to DoD customers
  • Implement software designs using object‑oriented best practices
  • Write automated unit and integration tests to ensure flight‑critical reliability
  • Participate in software architecture reviews, update design documentation, and follow software safety processes
  • Maintain source control, perform merges, and follow configuration-management workflows (Git)
  • Support containerized services and microservice patterns (Docker) as needed
  • Collaborate routinely with engineers, test teams, and system integrators
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Bachelor of Science (or advanced degree) in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related hard science (ABET preferred)
  • 0–3 years of professional software development experience
  • Strong teamwork, curiosity, and willingness to learn
  • Familiarity with object‑oriented design and software engineering best practices
  • Experience writing automated unit and integration tests
  • Good configuration-management habits (branching, merging, code reviews)
  • Comfortable working in an office environment in Madison, AL
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret clearance
  • CONUS travel: less than 10%

Preferred Skills

  • C# / .NET; JavaScript and TypeScript
  • React.js and modern front-end frameworks
  • Docker and microservices architecture
  • Experience with Git and CI/CD workflows
  • Linux development experience
  • Web development (REST APIs, browser-based UIs)
  • Familiarity with unmanned systems (drones, RC platforms) is a plus
  • Experience with Agile development (XP familiarity a plus)

Physical & Schedule Expectations

  • Regular hours are generally 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday; occasional additional hours may be required
  • Frequent communication, standing, walking, and manual tasks; ability to lift up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 25 lbs occasionally
  • Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
