Role overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Software Engineer (2027 cohort) to join a multidisciplinary team building test equipment and software/hardware control systems for defense and intelligence customers. This early-career role is hands-on — you’ll write code, integrate software with hardware, help test complex systems, and contribute to automated test solutions in C4ISR and mission-critical environments. The position includes participation in a Year One (YO) onboarding program, mentorship, and opportunities to learn modern engineering practices.


What you’ll do

  • Develop and maintain software for test equipment and hardware control systems.
  • Implement code in C/C++ and Java; support higher-level language tasks as needed.
  • Integrate and debug SW/HW systems; run integration, regression, and requirements testing.
  • Work with AI/ML services as part of product features or test automation.
  • Contribute to design discussions using Object-Oriented Analysis & Design (OOAD).
  • Support software deployments, product demonstrations, and system testing (may include business travel).
  • Collaborate within an agile, multidisciplinary team and participate in the Year One (YO) program and peer-mentoring activities.

Required education & experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science with hardware knowledge — applicable electrical/hardware coursework or demonstrable hobby/experience may qualify in lieu of formal coursework for CS degrees.
  • Less than or equal to 6 months of full-time software engineering experience (internships not counted toward this limit).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance; US Person status is required for this government-contract role.
  • Proficiency or strong familiarity with C/C++ and Java.
  • Solid understanding of software design and object-oriented programming principles (OOAD).
  • Basic knowledge of electronics and controlling hardware via software.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Preferred qualifications & tools

  • Master’s degree (considered for higher-level engineering band).
  • Prior internship or research experience in software/hardware integration.
  • Experience reading wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions.
  • Familiarity with one or more of: Visual Studio, Git/BitBucket, Jira, Jenkins, .NET, Python, CI/CD pipelines, SQL.
  • Extracurricular technical activities (clubs, projects, competitions) or community service demonstrating initiative.

Compensation & benefits

  • Full-time salary range: $59,023 — $100,339 per year (range provided by Confidential Client; final offer depends on experience, location, and internal equity).
  • Benefits include medical, dental, and vision plans; health savings accounts; 401(k); disability and life insurance; paid time off and holidays; parental and other leave; employee assistance programs; and discount programs. Specific benefits and eligibility will be explained during the hiring process.
  • Typical schedule: 9/80 (may require periodic business travel).
