The Entry Level Software Engineer will design, develop, and optimize software solutions, including graphical user interfaces, to support advanced technology projects for the US Navy. This role involves full software development lifecycle participation in an Agile environment, collaboration with team members and end-users, and occasional travel to test events. The position is based in Fredericksburg and Dahlgren, VA, with hybrid remote work opportunities.

What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring Entry Level Software Engineers to support a US Navy advanced technology R&D team. You will design, build, and optimize software tools and provide hands-on support during test events that advance mission-critical capabilities.
- Design and develop graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and internal tools for engineering teams.
- Implement, test, and optimize software primarily in C++ (C# and Java experience is a plus).
- Use Rational Team Concert, GitLab, and other DevOps tools to manage builds, version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle: requirements, design, coding, benchmarking, testing, debugging, and documentation.
- Work in Agile teams and contribute to sprint planning, code reviews, and continuous improvement.
- Support test events and technical demonstrations; occasional travel to test sites required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Active Secret-level U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required to maintain this clearance).
- Practical experience with object-oriented programming and demonstrated ability in C++, C#, or Java.
- Familiarity with Agile development practices and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
- Proficient with version control systems such as Git (or Bitbucket).
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and documentation skills.
- Ability to commute regularly to site locations in the local area and to attend on-site test events as needed.
- Possession of a valid Real ID driver’s license and reliable personal transportation (rideshare services are not permitted for site access).
Preferred Qualifications
- Internship or co-op experience on engineering or software development teams.
- Experience with performance optimization, benchmarking, or numerical/embedded systems.
- Prior work supporting defense, aerospace, or government R&D programs.
- Familiarity with DevOps pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
Work Location & Clearance
- Primary work locations: Enon area (local site access may require travel to Fredericksburg and Dahlgren, VA).
- This role requires an active Secret-level clearance; U.S. citizenship is required to hold and maintain the clearance.
- Regular on-site presence is expected; occasional telecommuting may be allowed at the client’s discretion.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base pay range (good-faith estimate): $75,000 — $90,000 per year.
