What You’ll Do
The Software Design Release Engineer (entry level) supports integration, validation, and release of hardware, embedded software, and calibrations for electronic control units (ECUs). As steward for assigned controllers, you will coordinate product plans, track milestones, manage software issue resolution, and support vehicle build and production activities. This role is a strong opportunity to develop technical engineering, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills within an engineering organization.
- Support development, validation, and release of embedded controller software and calibrations for development, production, and service use.
- Create and maintain product plans, track program milestones, and communicate status to help ensure on-time delivery of controller products.
- Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams to align requirements, review designs, and resolve technical issues.
- Lead and support product issue investigations using the Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS), including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Create and execute controller validation plans; coordinate bench, integration, safety, cybersecurity, and regulatory testing activities.
- Manage software, calibration, and controller part numbers through the product lifecycle to support releases.
- Support controller and system safety investigations, quality improvement initiatives, and continuous process improvements.
- Partner with suppliers, manufacturing plants, and engineering teams to support program launches and issue resolution.
Required Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Expected graduation between Dec 2026 and June 2027.
- Must be able to work in and around Warren, MI / Southeast Michigan.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Available to work full-time (40 hours per week).
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on team/project experience (Formula SAE, Baja SAE, AutoDrive, FIRST Robotics, VEX, EcoCAR, or similar).
- Basic knowledge of software verification/validation processes.
- Understanding of engineering principles for mechanical/electrical mechanisms.
- Experience with product development, validation, or release in automotive, aerospace, robotics, or other embedded-systems environments.
- Familiarity with embedded control systems, hardware/software integration, or electronic control units (ECUs).
- Basic knowledge of vehicle communications networks (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and diagnostic concepts.
- Familiarity with Agile, functional safety, cybersecurity, or systems engineering practices.
- Experience using data analysis, scripting, automation, or generative AI tools to improve engineering workflows.
Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to the client’s facility in Warren, MI a minimum of three days per week (or as directed by the business).

- Estimated salary shown on the source posting: $107,828 per year (estimated).
