Entry Level Security Analyst
The Entry Level Security Analyst will support the security team by monitoring threats, conducting threat hunting, analyzing logs, and assisting in incident response to protect sensitive data and systems. This role requires basic server or network administration experience and involves hands-on training to develop skills in security automation, vulnerability management, and cloud security. The position is onsite in Columbia, SC, with mandatory weekend evening shifts after training.

Role summary
This Confidential Client is hiring an Entry Level Security Analyst to join a security operations team protecting citizen data and motor vehicle licensing/titling systems. This is an onsite, full-time position based in Five Points, SC (onsite from day one). The client will provide training; we seek candidates with basic server or network administration experience and an interest in growing into a hands-on security analyst role.
Key responsibilities
- Threat intelligence research and OSINT to identify emerging risks
- Proactive threat hunting and creation/testing of detection rules (SIEM, Defender for Endpoint, etc.)
- Log review and analysis (firewalls, endpoints, servers) to identify IOCs
- Assist with incident triage and initial response following frameworks (e.g., NIST, MITRE ATT&CK)
- Document incidents, detection/hunting methodologies, and after-action reports
- Support vulnerability management efforts and prioritization of remediation
- Contribute to security awareness training and simulations
- Use automation and scripting (SCCM, GPO, PowerShell) to deploy patches and streamline tasks
- Configure and monitor endpoint protection and network security policies
- Participate in digital forensics investigations and learn cloud security controls as needed
Minimum qualifications
- High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field preferred
- 1+ year experience in server or network administration
- 1+ year of experience in an IT security–focused role (internship, SOC analyst I, or similar experience acceptable)
- Familiarity with SIEM and endpoint security tools
- Hands-on experience or familiarity with PowerShell, Group Policy (GPO), and SCCM or other endpoint management tools
- Basic understanding of networking, firewalls, and common protocols
- Willingness and ability to work required shifts (includes Saturday and Sunday evening shifts)
- Must be available for onsite interviews and onsite work from day one; candidates must be residents of South Carolina and able to work in Five Points/Columbia area
- Willing to sign an NDA if requested
Preferred certifications & skills
- CompTIA Security+, Network+
- GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC) or GIAC Incident Handler (GCIH)
- Hands-on experience with Defender for Endpoint, common SIEM platforms, or similar tooling
- Familiarity with NIST controls and MITRE ATT&CK framework
- Experience writing and tuning detection queries / rules
